Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. 1Steers the vessel as directed by the Officer of the Watch during navigation.
2. 2Stands lookout watch and reports all sightings, lights, and objects to the bridge.
3. 3Assists with mooring and unmooring operations including line handling on the bridge wing.
4. 4Maintains the cleanliness and order of the bridge, wheelhouse, and navigation areas.
5. 5Handles signal flags and ensures proper display of day shapes and navigation lights.
6. 6Assists with pilot ladder rigging and gangway operations.
7. 7Performs helmsman duties during port approaches, departures, and restricted waters.
8. 8Reports weather observations and sea conditions to the Officer of the Watch.
