Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. 1Assists the Chief Engineer in managing all machinery operations and maintenance programs.
2. 2Supervises daily engine room operations and coordinates work assignments among engineers.
3. 3Oversees the planned maintenance system (PMS) and ensures timely completion of all tasks.
4. 4Manages spare parts inventory, ordering, and stock control for the engine department.
5. 5Acts as Chief Engineer in their absence and assumes full technical responsibility.
6. 6Supervises main engine overhauls, generator maintenance, and auxiliary machinery repairs.
7. 7Reviews and approves work permits for hot work, confined space entry, and hazardous operations.
8. 8Mentors and evaluates junior engineers and engine ratings.
9. 9Monitors fuel and lubricating oil consumption and quality.
10. 10Coordinates with shore-side technical superintendents on major repairs and upgrades.
